Another addition to my Mortal Kombat portrait gallery, I’ve had a few requests for Scorpion so I figure may as well do him next. Kept the painting a bit loose and rough, used the MK v DC Universe costume as the base for the design. Done in Painter using Gouache and Sponges, with a touch of Photoshop for some slight colour alterations, about 7 hours work.

A continuation of my Mortal Kombat series, good ol’ Sonya Blade this time ’round. This was going to be more detailed and blended but I started to like the roughness of the foundation brush strokes so I decided to stay with that style, sort of gives it a more concept design feel to the overall piece which I quite like.
Probably about 6-7 hours work. image reference courtesy of http://tw1stedtruth-stock.deviantart.com/

I’ve recently been reading some awesome books by the great fantasy artists Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell, these book inspired me to try using Oils for the first time, needless to say this image of Kitana is nowhere near the level of what Vallejo and Bell can produce, I tried at best to copy the techniques both artists say they use in the books, I think I need a bit more practice before I reach their level.

The image referenced used is courtesy of http://tw1stedtruth-stock.deviantart.com/, probably about 13 hours of work, maybe more.

A change of pace, this was something I knocked up over the weekend in about 7-8 hours, there’s a new Mortal Kombat game coming out, and what better way to celebrate than to do an image of one of MK’s favourite characters.
Done in Painter using Gouache, Airbrush and Tinting Brushes with a touch of Photoshop for some added textures, I used mostly Scratchy and Worn textured brushes as I wanted a rougher edge to this design to suit the character.
