Green Lantern Teaser

Off the back of the news that Green Lantern looks set to start very soon, I thought I’d whip up a quick teaser poster, found a perfect stock photo for it too, curious to see what the GL faithful think.

Character Design – Superman

Second in my character design series – Superman, the goal here was to recreate the superman suit design in a fresh and modern way yet keep the spirit and essence of the traditional comic book design. The problem I’ve always had with live action versions of the Superman outfit is that’s it’s not very 3D friendly and always looked like a Halloween costume, this was more of an attempt to make something a little more ‘other worldly’ or alien like.

Character Design – Wonder Woman

UPDATE: I’ve updated this design slightly, bit more sleek and more comic like.

Updated costume
Damaged costume

Since WB has decided to do a bunch of solo films for the DC characters, over the next few weeks I thought I’d do a series of character designs to go with the more darker and mature theme they’re going for. First one of 4, Wonder Woman. I’ve learned that Wonder Woman comic writer Gail Simone quite likes this design which was quite cool to find out, I’m genuinely surprised someone from DC would actually take notice of my obscure fan artworks.

Harley Quinn Dark Knight Still

The April Fools gag that never was, made this especially for April Fools day but chickened out at the last minute, something about angry fanboys brandishing torches and pitchforks made me rethink it.

The idea was to get a bunch of film and comic sites involved with the gag and see the fan boy reaction, the beauty part is that as I live in Australia, we get April Fools Day first, so suspicion would have been minimal. Kristen Bell’s quotes saying she’d like to play Harley Quinn was going to be the base of the gag, the idea was she was purposely going around saying that when in actual fact she’d already been cast, to sort of throw people off the scent, then this image would have been released by a WB ‘insider’. I’m curious to know how all that would have played out. Anyway, here’s the before and after shot below.

Wonder Woman Teaser

A mate of mine mentioned a recent Wonder Woman illustration I did would be a great shot for a movie poster, so it got me thinking and this is a quick design for a teaser poster I came up with. Manipulated the airbrushing a bit to look more like my regular WW model, actress Cobie Smulders, and gave it a slightly degraded/ancient look. The logo I’m quite happy with, (I’ll be honest it’s my favourite part of the whole image), I’ve gotten really good feed back from this, the tag line especially, people seem to like it a lot. The most surprising comment I got from this was from a blogger would openly admitted to not liking Wonder Woman but would definitely see a Wonder Woman move if it’s poster looked like this one. Oddly enough, there are some places on the net who believe this is legitimate, I’ll take that as a compliment. ;)

Gotham City Rises!

Here they are, the poster designs that sort of sparked my 15 mins of internet fame, I really appreciate all the sites that posted these (as well as some other of my stuff), to many to name but I know there was at least 10 major film and pop culture sites, but I will mention Peter over at Slash Film who first ran the article on my fan art, he’s also said to send any more fan art his way if I think Slash film might be interested.

One thing I would like to clarify is the Catwoman poster, I read a lot of comments saying she looks likes she’s got stubble, it’s actually a film grain effect that was suppose to go with the deteriorated look of the whole design, but I guess I can see how people can misinterpret that, it wasn’t my intent though, the last thing I would want is a Catwoman with a Five O’clock shadow. :)

Two Face – Dark Knight Promo

We sadly got no Two-Face promotional artwork for The Dark Knight, so as a result I thought lets make one! This was actually pretty straight forward, manipulated an image of Aaron Eckhart with that leaked Two Face image and hey presto! Instant Two Face Promo!

One thing I get asked a lot is ‘How did you do that?’, well to give you an idea as to how that Two Face poster was done here is the before and after manipulated image of Aaron Eckhart.

I had to take some lighting liberties in order to make the damaged side of the suit stand out a bit more, I basically had to add another light source, then it was a simple matter of cutting him out and pasting him on the Joker poster.
